On my 16th birthday a restaurant changed my life.
Since then, I wanted to become a chef. It took me a little while to realize that I wanted to go to culinary school: I graduated from Fordham University with double majors in Italian Language & Lit, and Journalism. I also studied at the Universita’ degli studi di Ferrara in Ferrara, Italy majoring in Art History and Medieval and Rennaissance Literature.
After living in Italy, and being dissappointed with many interships in the Journalism field in New York City, I realized I needed to go back to Italy and do what I love… COOK!
So here I am! I’m in a program that allows me to do both (Grazie, International Culinary Academy!)… and you can follow my journey as I uncover how our food goes from terra (land) to tavola (table) through my blog, Alla Rachel!
Hi Rachel,
I’m a friend of your mom’s and want to say how much I have enjoyed your blog … while shopping at Costco earlier today I became engaged in a conversation with a woman over the mangoes and she mentioned that she had recently returned from holiday in Ustica, off of Sicily. She said the food was out of this world there. Her sister had just finished a Cordon Bleu course in England … I mentioned you and that you are in Sicily and she said Ustica is really gorgeous and you must go! I’m going to google it now! Enjoy your time in Sicily and please continue to update your blog!
Holly
Thanks Holl for your comment! Sicily I think is one of the parts of Italy that has still not been taken over by tourism. Before going to Florence, or Romee, I would highly encourage travelers to check out Sicily. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever imagined!!
Hi Rachel. I found your blog when I was researching the ICA. I am contemplating going to school there but just wanted to hear some students opinions so I was glad that I found your blog. I’m not sure if you will be checking it but if so my email address is allison.coremin@mail.com and maybe you could give me some advice/words of wisdom. Thanks!
Hi Rachel. I found your blog when i was researching the ICA. I am a sophmore in highschool right now , and i enjoyed reading about your experience, because i am really interested in going there one day!! My favorite part about your blog was when you talked about being obsessed and staying up late to cook, because i can relate to that!lol
